What we collect

If you subscribe to the monthly memo, we collect your email address via our newsletter form. That's the only personal information we ask for — no name, company, or phone number required.

Like most sites, we also collect standard analytics: pages visited, time on page, referring source, and approximate location (country/city level, derived from IP, not stored). This is anonymous, aggregate usage data — not tied to your identity.

How we use it

Your email address is used solely to send the monthly memo you signed up for. We don't sell, trade, or share it with third parties, and we don't use it for advertising.

Analytics data helps us understand which articles are useful and where to focus future writing. It isn't used to build individual profiles.

Email delivery

Newsletter subscriptions are handled by Sendy, a self-hosted mailing list platform running on our own infrastructure — your email address never passes through a third-party email marketing vendor. Subscriptions are double opt-in: you'll get a confirmation email before you start receiving anything.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic and readership. These set cookies for that purpose. No personally identifiable information is collected through analytics. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Your rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email. If you're in the EU/UK and want to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you beyond that, email [email protected].

Data retention

Subscriber emails are kept for as long as you're subscribed; unsubscribing removes you from the active list (residual backup copies may persist up to 90 days). Analytics data is retained per Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

Data deletion instructions

To request deletion of any personal data we hold about you (e.g. your newsletter subscription email), email [email protected] with the subject line "Data deletion request" and the email address to remove. We'll confirm deletion within 30 days.

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
